SIR— I wish to express
my concern about the
unscrupulous traders who are cheating unsuspecting
customers in broad-daylight theft, selling the same items cheaply, without anybody
raising a finger.
Recently, I went to buy
a five-litre jerrican of Mukwano cooking oil. I was suspicious about the quantity which looked like it was not the right one. But I went ahead and bought it. So the first jerrican proved me right because when I checked the lid, it had been opened. The man was smart enough to give one which looked like it was properly sealed and I paid sh9,500.
When I reached home, the first thing I did was to check on what I had bought because my senses were suspicious all the way home. And what can I tell you? The silver cover had been punched and I believe a whole litre had been siphoned!
I therefore appeal to whoever is concerned to help and protect the consumers against these thieves.
Uganda Consumer Protection Association and may be
the Police, need to wake up
and do more about these cheats.
