<b>Forestry law</b><br>KAMPALA– A new forestry law passed by Parliament will contribute to the conservation of forests located outside the protected areas, Deo Byarugaba the Commissioner for Forest department has said.

Forestry law
KAMPALA– A new forestry law passed by Parliament will contribute to the conservation of forests located outside the protected areas, Deo Byarugaba the Commissioner for Forest department has said. The law will create an institution called the National Forestry Authority, to manage the forests as a business enterprise.

Garbage gift
LIRA– Holland has pledged a garbage truck for Lira Municipal Council. Peter Owiny, Lira’s mayor said the truck would help boost efficiency in garbage collecting. Owiny had returned from a trip to Holland to learn about Dutch methods of garbage disposal.

Illegal fishing
KAMPALA– Uganda has started involving local communities in management and conservation of Lake Victoria. Under this new initiative, Beach Management Units are to replace landing sites.The Fisheries Department had transferred some powers to communities to curb the rampant cases of illegal fishing.
