WATER state minister, Maria Mutagamba has challenged Government corporations and departments to be efficient in their programmes and service delivery.
The minister, who was on Friday presiding over the launch of National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NSWC) Stretch-Out programme, hailed the water body as one of the few efficient public corporations.
“NWSC has proved to Ugandans that a public corporation can be efficient. This is a challenge to the rest,” Mutagamba said during the function held at NWSC Training Centre at Bugolobi Kampala.
She said she had a certificate from the World Bank in her office, recognising NWSC as one of the best corporations.
She, however, warned the NWSC management to be careful because the world was watching.
“If you perform very well, everyone starts watching you. They either want to know how you did it or compete with you. So NWSC should be careful and keep on course,” Mutagamba said.
She hailed the Germans for their contribution in the water sector.
Mutagamba, however, asked the German deputy ambassador to Uganda, Karin Stoll, to lobby for more support.
Dr. William Muhairwe, the NWSC managing director said the new programme was aimed at discouraging bureaucracies in the corporation that hinder effective service delivery.
He said the programme has “a one- minute management concept that calls situational leadership, where any given supervisor at any one time becomes a leader and decision- maker.”
