KAMPALA — MPs have complained that Bank of Uganda’s continuous intervention in the foreign exchange market is too costly. The bank sells dollars in the foreign exchange market to strengthen the shilling. Jachan Omach (Jonam), deputy chairman finance committee, said yesterday the sale of treasury bills to control inflation sterilised the economy.

New caucus
KAMPALA — MPs from districts affected by the National Resistance Army (NRA) liberation war yesterday formed the Luweero Triangle Parliamentary Group with its secretariat at the offices of the Ministry for Luweero Triangle. The minister, Prof. Ssemakula Kiwanuka, is its secretary.

Rebels killed
KAMPALA — The UPDF have rescued 71 captives and killed 11 LRA rebels in two days of fighting in Padibe, Puranga and Odek in Omoro county. The UPDF spokesman in the north, Lt. Paddy Ankunda, yesterday said the captives were rescued in Kitgum, Pader and Gulu districts. Eight guns were recovered.
