THE Uganda National Students Association district chairperson for Soroti, Emmanuel Osujo, has asked the Government to provide security to schools in areas disturbed by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels.
He said Soroti students were frightened by the renewed rebel threats to abduct more children.
Osujo said the threats had come at a time when students were preparing for mid-year and end of semester exams and their performance could be affected.
“The students are scared. Many are contemplating leaving even before the term ends but we only need an assurance that we are safe from Kony,” Osujo said.
Teso College headmaster George Akabwai said some students had left the school following a recent influx of people displaced from Katakwi district.
The coordinator of the Arrow Group, a team fighting the rebels in Teso region, Musa Ecweru, assured the students of total security.
