THE World Food Programme (WFP) has started food distribution in Pader Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps to address the acute food shortage in the district.
Food distribution started recently in camps at Atanga, Laguti, Acolbur, Lapul, Pajule and Pader Town council.
Several thousands of households received yellow maize and assorted beans.
Shaban Adina, of WFP told The New Vision during a food distribution exercise at Pajule that a total of 223,634 tonnes of maize and beans had been distributed to 25,797 households in Lapul and Pajule.
Shaban urged the beneficiaries not to sell the food.
“WFP has strict regulations on such relief as they are not meant for sale.
“The WFP will stop the distribution of food in the IDP camps if reported that they have been selling the food relief,” he warned.
He said all the IDP camps in Pader would get food. “Camps that are on our list will benefit from this on-going food relief distribution exercise except those that are not registered with us,” he said. The CAO, Leonard Ojok Opio, urged WFP to distribute food to the needy at least twice a month instead of once.
