Lagos, Nigeria —Experienced female sprinter Mary Onyali has been named Nigeria's captain to the Eighth All-Africa Games, which the country will host in October, sports minister Musa Mohammed announced on Monday.

Lagos, Nigeria —Experienced female sprinter Mary Onyali has been named Nigeria's captain to the Eighth All-Africa Games, which the country will host in October, sports minister Musa Mohammed announced on Monday.

Mohammed made the announcement when he addressed hundreds of athletes who will fly out of the country this week to continue training abroad ahead of the All-Africa Games.

Onyali, 35, has represented Nigeria in many international competitions since 1983.

She won a bronze medal in the women's 200 metres at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta as well as a silver medal in both the 100m and 200m at the 1990 World Cup.

Onyali was also part of Nigeria's 4x100m relay bronze medallists at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.
