THE 62nd edition of the Uganda Open Golf Championship due next week will this time be limited to players below handicap eight.

The previous editions of the prestigious tournament sponsored by Alam Group of Companies had competitors of up to handicap nine in the main draw.

“The handicaps were brought down to make the tournament more competitive, there were many people” an official at Uganda Golf Club explained.

The subsidiary event of the 54-holes tournament will be restricted to players between handicap eight to 14.

Defending champion Deo Akope and local rival Charles Yokwe are competing in the ongoing Rwanda Open in Kigali in preparation for the home event that has attracted competitors from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

Over 12 professionals from Kenya and Tanzania will feature in the tournament.

Tanzanian professional Juma Molais and Salim Mwanyeza have already confirmed participation.
Meanwhile Uganda Golf Club will play host to the Isuzu Open Golf tournament today.

Kampala Auto Centre and General Motors East Africa limited are sponsors of the 36-holes competition.

A Corsa pick-up is up for grabs for whoever will fire a hole-in-one at Kitante course.

The latest Isuzu pick-up model KB 300 TDILX will be on display.
