UGANDA Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) president Vincent Byarugaba has challenged his executive committee to deliver or else “go home and rear ducks”.

In his address to the general assembly at Lugogo yesterday, the UABF boss said he was disappointed by the Bombers performance at the recent All Africa Games. For the first time in years, the national boxers failed to qualify for the Olympics at the games.

“If nobody qualifies we should all resign and may be go and rear ducks,” Byarugaba told the delegates.

“Honestly, we are sinking, there will be a lot of pressure on us,” added the Kasese-based Hima Cement welfare officer, who called for teamwork.

Byarugaba, who outlined lack of sponsorship as a major hindrance for the sport, also blasted officials for corruption and poor officiation.

“I hear during competitions money changes hands. This is killing the game. We are destroying ourselves,” he stressed urging officials to be open minded.

The tough talk, coming from the soft-spoken official, indicates a high pressure on the man who replaced ‘iron-man’ David Agong in 2000.

UABF’s remaining chance lies in the two remaining qualifiers in Botswana and Morocco.
