PRISONS team is on the verge of retaining the Inter-Forces Games title after taking the lead when the track and field athletic events held on Thursday, reports Samson Opus.

The Luzira based team finished top on the athletics table with 262 points. UPDF finished second with 216 and Police was third-placed at 59.

It was a two-horse race as UPDF’s national stars Joseph Nsubuga, Francis Yiga and Job Sikoria dominated the middle distance races while Justin Yapsabila powered Prisons in the women’s category.

Nsubuga led in the 10,000m race clocking 31:56.8 ahead of Yiga who was timed at 32:00.0. Prisons surged forward after national athlete Yapsabila led her teammates to victory in 100m, 200m and 400m. The army team, however, maintained the grip in shooting.

Internal affairs state minister Kezimbira Muyingo opened the four-day championship.
The decisive competitions in volleyball, handball and netball was still on late yesterday.
