Apac District Education Committee has decried the rampant witchcraft practices in the district. In its report to District Council recently, the committee chaired by John Ereng noted that charms have persistently hit eight secondary and primary schools.

The report named the schools hit by witchcraft as Akikoro SS, Apac SS, Apac Technical School, Atudu P7, Atar P7, Abuge P7, Angic P7 and Omuge P7.

The report said that the practices have crippled educational activities of the affected schools. It added that the acts at times force the schools to be closed.

It added that some students have died while others ran mad due to the charms effects in their schools.
“ We have ever tried religious leaders and sorcerers to remove the charms from the affected school but in vain!, an education official said.

The committee requested the council to enact a byelaw to curb witchcraft practices in schools and committees.

The committee blamed the escalating practices of witchcraft on the present ambiguous constitutional laws, which make offenders go unpunished by courts of law.
