GOVERNMENT has finalised plans to install a high power-generating plant to serve the West Nile region, state minister for energy, Daudi Migereko said last week, writes Abubaker Mukose.

He said the project was part of the energy ministry’s ongoing delivery mechanism to cover areas, which are not connected on the national grid.

“We have approved the project. The funds are readily available. Soon, the region will be supplied with power 18-hours a day instead of four hours,” Migereko said.

He was responding to concerns by speakers from West Nile region on power distribution while officiating at the opening of an extra-ordinary meeting for the Uganda District Council Speakers’ Association at Jinja Town Hall.

Migereko, however said, the generator would serve as the government finalised plans to have the Nyagak hydro-power station built.

He said concessional projects had also been approved to deliver power to rural areas in Kanugu, Rukungiri and Bushenyi.
