AS if the CECAFA Challenge Cup has not had enough trouble, the Sudanese yesterday released another bombshell, announcing their would be no cash prizes for the teams.

Sudan Football Union’s El Mugal yesterday announced that government had failed to secure the anticipated funds, which were meant to be given to the top three countries, and instead said that the winner will walk off with the traditional trophy.

CECAFA president Denis Obua, who is presiding over his first tournament, could not be reached at his Khartoum base for a comment. The tournament had earlier been hit by the withdrawals of Ethiopia, Djibouti, Burundi, Tanzania and Somalia.

The tournament sees its final preliminary games today, with Uganda battling Kenya to determine who tops the group.

Cranes coach Charles Namakola is confident he will get the top spot.
“What we have to do is to kill their (Kenya’s) right wing that destroyed Eritrea,” Namakola said ahead of the clash.

Probable line up:
I.Mugisha, A. Kaya, S. Wasswa, S.Mubiru, A.Mwesigwa, N.Kasule, J.Kabagambe, A.Bajope, H.Kabeta, D.Obua and A.Tabula
