Olive Kigongo (right), the President of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI), has invited more Chinese to invest in Uganda.
She said, “UNCCI shall endeavour to promote China based companies, introduce new contracts, expand their trade/investment opportunities and represent their interests in Uganda.”
She returned from Addis Ababa over the weekend, after attending the three-day China-Africa Business Conference. It was hosted by Ethiopian Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi.
The Republic of China vice minister of commerce, Wei Jianguo led a large team of senior Chinese trade officials and business leaders to the talks.
Kigongo told the conference, “There is substantial investment of Chinese companies in Uganda and a number of memorandums have been signed between Uganda business people and Chinese counterparts on one side and the Chamber of Commerce, but we feel this is not enough. The Chamber, which I represent, would like to see more Chinese investment in Uganda.
She highlighted Uganda’s conducive investment policies and pointed out suitable areas for new Chinese capital. These included agro-business, manufacturing, mining, infrastructure and fishing.
