Sugar Corporation of Uganda Limited (SCOUL) recorded an output of 40,000 tonnes this year according to company officials.
Scoul chief executive, Mr C. Khan said on Tuesday, the company had projected an output of 45,000 tonnes throughout the year.
He said that the company failed to meet the target due to extended overhauls of their production line.
However Khan said the Uganda Revenue Authority has done well in helping to limit imports of smuggled sugar on the local market. He said this has helped sugar companies to sell of their stock.
“We managed to sell of our stock because URA came in and saved us from people who were importing and sell cheap sugar on the market,” he said.
The company introduced 1,25 and 50 Kg sugar bags last year that increased it is market shares on the local scene.
