THE Minister for Local Government, Tarsis Kabwegyere, has asked district councils to shun leaders out to embezzle funds

THE Minister for Local Government, Tarsis Kabwegyere, has asked district councils to shun leaders out to embezzle funds, writes James Bakunzi.

Kabwegyere warned councillors and other politicians against conniving with chief administrative officers to embezzle district funds.

He said it was safer for local councils to execute their responsibilities as detailed in the Constitution, the Local Government Act and subsidiary regulations.

Kabwegyere was addressing Mpigi district councillors, head of departments and MPs on his familiarisation tour of district at the council chambers recently.

He said elected leaders have a direct responsibility to monitor the accountability of funds sent to their area of representation.
