ZIMBABWEAN teenager Conrad Rautenbach, who mesmerised Ugandans in the TOTAL Pearl of Africa rally, has carried his form to Britain, impressing Ford boss Chris Birkbeck.

Rautenbach has made an immediate impression on team boss who is preparing the 19-year-old Zimbabwean’s cars for the 2004 Junior World Rally Championship.

Birkbeck is thrilled with Rautenbach’s potential and reckoned he had made “incredible progress” during the test, although he expects him to be at his strongest on rougher events such as Turkey and the Acropolis, which are more akin to the African rallies he has contested hitherto.

Rautenbach, who has never rallied on tarmac, completed 250 kilometres of testing with Birkbeck Rallysport at three locations in northern Britain last week in preparation for the Monte Carlo Rally.
