TWO Ugandan teenagers will battle for slots in the Africa Junior Tennis Championship.

Duncan Mugabe and Sandra Kasumba depart this Sunday for Pretoria, South Africa for the ten-day qualifier that gets underway on Monday.

“Our youngsters are good, we would be assured of several slots but we could only send two due to financial constraints. Even then we still have hope in the two who will make the trip,” Uganda Tennis Association official James Kasumba said yesterday.

Multi-talented Patrick Ochan would have been chosen to travel to Pretoria but the opening bowler is with the national U-19 cricket team currently in residential training at Lugogo.

Uganda is drawn in group C with 14 other countries.

International Tennis Federation (ITF) contributed $1200 (sh2.3m) to the Ugandans’ trip and individuals in the tennis fraternity topped up.
