VICTORS have registered a crucial boardroom victory ahead of their maiden international match. Uganda’s Confederations Cup representatives have in a cost cutting move convinced Africa soccer governing body CAF to have the Eritrean referees replaced.

“The referees will now come from Tanzania. I will therefore save $3000 from the $4500 I would have paid if they were from Eritrea,” explained Victors FC owner Col. Jackson Tushabe.

Tushabe has a sh43m budget for the first leg of the preliminary encounter with the Zimbabwean side that is expected in Kampala on Wednesday.

Victors have for a month camped in Jinja under close supervision of former Police defender George Lutalo.

The Kakindu side kick started its fund raising last year with a sh10m offer from National Council of Sports (NCS).

Tushabe has appealed to soccer fans to attend the Nakivubo match in big numbers so that the Kakungulu Cup holders can raise funds for the Harare return leg. Entry into the pavilion will be sh10,000 while the other stands will go for sh5000.

It will be a busy football weekend with KCC also taking on Mozambiquan side Ferroviaro de Maputo in the CAF Champions League.

Victors might be in an international debut but wrangles that have lately rocked the Zimbabwean side could play in Uganda’s favour.

Caps United recently appointed coach Lloyd Chitembwe to take charge of the team’s continental assignment. The move followed Jostein Mathuthu’s resignation.
Mathuthu left disgruntled by his relationship with the club authorities.

He complained that Caps United lacked proper administrative channels. Running battles between officials and players had become common in the Southern Africa club.
