ATHLETICS - UAF’s athlete-of-the-year Moses Kipsiro has a vision of finishing at the podium in upcoming international events, especially the IAAF World Cross Country and World Athletics Championships in March and August this year.
Speaking after being crowned by state sports minister Charles Bakkabulindi, Kipsiro, who was getting the award for the second time in a row, said that it has given him a challenge to perform better this year around. “I have a vision this year,” said the athlete flanked by his newly wed wife Berna after the crowning.

Armed gang attacks Newell’s

SOCCER - The headquarters of Argentine first division club Newell’s Old Boys was attacked by an armed gang who vandalised property and intimidated staff, police told local media on Monday. The gang, numbering around 30 and armed with guns and baseball bats, were believed to belong to a faction of the Rosario-based club’s own supporters, officials added.

Juniors League donate material

SOCCER - Uganda Juniors League kids, who have just returned from a South African tour, have volunteered educational material to help FUFA set up a complete youth football structure. UJL who toured various kids soccer academies and played games in an exchange programme with Amathole Sports Development Academy, returned with a lot of educational material that helped South Africa develop youth football structures.

Owiny calls out for discipline
RUGBY - Uganda Rugby Union chairman Andrew Owinyi wants club officials and players to exhibit discipline if the sport is to continue developing. “I don’t support Heathens or any club in the country, but I want discipline to prevail among players and officials to keep rugby developing,” Owinyi said at the MTN Heathens awards at Kyadondo rugby ground on Sunday. 14 confirm EA games entry

GAMES - Fourteen teams have confirmed participation at the East Africa University Games to be hosted by Kyambogo next week. Teams from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi had confirmed by yesterday, reported National University Sports Federations of Uganda secretary Patick Sebuliba. The annual championship involves competitions in soccer, athletics, basketball, volleyball, hockey, rugby and handball.
