Ask the Doctor with Dr. Paul Semugoma

Dear Doctor,
Does sex with a condom give as much pleasure as sex without a condom?
Fred

Dear Fred,
A condom can be annoying. You have to
stop to put it on. The distraction can
make you lose the erection. Yet, condoms are very important. We have a sex drive.

Sex is a good thing. But, it can be unsafe. Using a condom correctly protects against HIV, other STDs like gonorrhoea and unwanted pregnancy.

The advantages of condoms outweigh
the discomfort of learning to use them
well. Make the condom a usual part of
the sex act. Get the correct size.

Practise putting it on so you can get used. Let your partner help you put it on as part of foreplay, part of the sex act. Make it part of the pleasure.

The independence, protection and freedom from worry that the condom gives one is worth the time taken to learn to use it. So use it, every time and all the time!
