GARBAGE has choked Lira town after a truck donated by the National Environment Management Authority to collect rubbish broke down.

“We are trying to remove all the temporary structures which are also littering the town.

But the problem is our truck, which has been taken for repair,” the deputy town clerk, Fred Ongom, said on Thursday. He said only one truck was now collecting waste.

Ongom was defending the district’s capability to host the launch of the Local Government Management Services Delivery and Government Programme.

It will draw ministers, local government leaders and international donors next Friday at the Mayor’s Garden.

He said they had directed kiosk owners to remove their structures from the town.

Ongom added that they had also advised hotel owners and landlords to paint their houses to give the town a clean look.
