THE Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has hosted the third steering committee of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) and East African Community (EAC) Modernisation Project, writes Mark Owor.

The meeting took place at the Kampala Serena Hotel and was chaired by the URA commissioner general, Allen Kagina.

Kagina said the meeting had customs commissioners from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi and representatives of the EAC and WCO.

“The objective of the meeting was to review processes in customs to see how we can facilitate trade and modernise our regions in customs clearance,” she explained.

The project’s manager, Sheena Lubwama said: “We want to interact more with the private sector and make it easier for players to do business in other regions of the community. We also want to see, which legal set-ups are necessary to help.”
