ASK THE EXPERTS

Dear Sir,
I attempted Senior Four twice but failed to complete due to lack of school fees. Now I have the money and wish to return to school but feel too old for secondary (I am 24). Is there anywhere I can get a Senior Four certificate or its equivalent to enable me enrol for further studies?

TONNY, the best way to get a Senior Four certificate is by sitting the Uganda Certificate of Education exams. This is going to require you to go back to school and undertake the O’ level curriculum until you are ready to sit the exams. You do not have to worry about going back to a traditional secondary school though.

Today, there are a number of institutions offering secondary school education to adults like you. John Agaba, a commissioner in the Ministry of Education says, there are various institutions registered by the ministry to offer this education to adults. For instance, the institute near Makerere University and Ntebe SS among others can be of great help to you.

Alternatively, you could enroll in one of the government-aided technical schools, community polytechnics or business institutes; here you can be admitted for as long as you successfully completed Primary Seven.

In all this, it is important for you to understand that your education soars above everything else.

Look at how best you can attain your dreams without being compromised by your age; it is true that age plays a psychological role in the success or failure of your education pursuits at your age, but let it not overshadow the bigger picture.

You are definitely on your way to success. God bless you.
