PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has assured the people of Bunyoro that the Government is in the process of enacting a law to mitigate possible land conflicts that could arise between indigenous and immigrant communities in the sub-region.

The President cautioned leaders against circulating negative messages, saying they would divide the population and incite violence.

He was meeting leaders from Bunyoro including the second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Service, Henry Kajura and the Minister of Information and National Guidance, Kabakumba Masiko, at the State House, Entebbe on Monday.

Museveni said the Government was considering criminalising pastoral and nomadic life-styles to mitigate potential land conflicts, a statement from State House said yesterday.

He called for patience as the Government finds a lasting solution to land problems in the region. The President commended the people for supporting the NRM government.

Museveni a fortnight ago, held another meeting with members of the Mubende Banyoro Committee, a pressure group campaigning for the rights of Banyoro.
The meeting was intended to avert a riot in Kibaale district masterminded by the committee.

The State Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Fred Ruhindi, was also in attendance.
