RONALD Ssebuguzi shrugged off a spirited challenge by rookie Nasser Mutebi and Susan ‘Super Lady’ Muwonge, to win the Race of Champions sprint at Entebbe Botanical Gardens on Sunday.

The Jomayi Property-sponsored Ssebuguzi powered his Mitsubishi Evo4, setting the quickest time of four minutes 32 seconds to claim his second sprint victory this season.

Mutebi (Subaru N4), who continues to impress in his maiden season, clocked 4:46, beating Muwonge to second position by one second.

“It was a tight contest. I needed to take a couple of risks to beat them by a sizeable margin. Nasser and Susan are quite competitive but my car is also still in good shape,” Ssebuguzi said.

Mutebi was happy with second position: “To be up there with seasoned drivers in my first season is a good performance. Besides I was cautious. I wouldn’t want to break my car when I don’t have a sponsor.”

Abdu Samad and Shafiq Semujju tied in fourth after posting 04:53. Godfrey Lubega finished seventh.

The sprint, that was organised by MPU Motorsport, attracted 35 drivers.
