MPS from Soroti district have clashed over the location of the proposed new Serere district headquarters.

Elijah Okupa (Kasilo county) attacked John Otekat (Serere county), saying he engaged constructors who failed to complete the Kasiro county headquarters building.

“The headquarters were built under Otekat when he was the district chairman. He chewed the money,” Okupa said.

Okupa added that new district headquarters should be in Kamod in Kasilo county because the county had vast land necessary for development.
Okupa also said the Kasilo peninsula found in the county was a tourist attraction and could increase the district revenue.

The MPs were recently meeting the local government parliamentary committee to discuss the new district.

Otekat refuted Okupa’s arguments, saying Kasilo county headquarters had stalled over land wrangles.

He added that Serere had structures ready to house the district headquarters.
Otekat said Kasilo area councillors had already agreed that the headquarters be in Serere.
