Vision Group chief Robert Kabushenga on Tuesday featured on the Central Broadcasting Station’s talk-show ‘Kkiriza oba Gaana’.

Kabushenga explained to Meddie Nsereko, the show host, that Sunday Vision had no ulterior motive to publish a story against the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Mutebi.

He also said the Government was not behind the Bulange story.

During the show, people called in to express appreciation for the company’s apologetic stance and thanked Kabushenga for respecting the Kabaka.

Kabushenga thanked Buganda’s Attorney General Apollo Makubuya, lawyers Daudi Mpanga, Medard Ssegona and Sam Sejjaka for cooperating with him to resolve the matter.

He also commended Prince Kassim Nakibinge, Uganda Taxi Operators and Drivers Association chief Hajji Katongole, Princess Nalinnya, Habib Kajimu and Kaddu Kiberu for advising on how best to resolve the stand-off.

“In the competitive media environment, people make mistakes. But what matters is learning from the mistake and apologising,” Kabushenga said.

He also explained the delay in publishing the apology, saying he wanted to handle the matter personally, but he was out of the country.

As soon as I arrived, he added, I initiated talks.

“But since the matter had already been taken to court, certain procedures had to be taken, including agreeing on the wording of the apology,” Kabushenga said.

The story erroneously said the king had mortgaged the Bulange (Buganda parliament building).
