THE Inter-Party Coalition is warming up to welcome Olara Otunnu, tipped to take over the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) mantle from Miria Obote.

UPC, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), the Conservative Party, Justice Forum and the Congress Service Volunteers officials said this while addressing a joint press conference at Parliament yesterday.

Otunnu is scheduled to return to Uganda on August 22 after 23 years in exile.

The FDC delegation was led by deputy president Salaamu Musumba.

The Democratic Party (DP) was not present.

Musumba said they are holding talks with DP over the matter.

The group, however, said Otunnu was not their joint candidate in the 2011 presidential elections, adding that they would meet later to decide that.

Benson Obua-Ogwal (UPC), the event’s spokesperson, said the Police had been notified about Otunnu’s arrival and up-country visits and requested to provide security.
