Youth services are more attractive to young people

EDITOR—On July 29, there was an article about why the youth are running away from the mainstream churches. Archbishop Luke Orombi said the youth today have found ‘traditional churches’ unpleasant and blames this mainly on Pentecostal churches.

He says others, due to lack of adequate guidance have become atheists and simply do not believe in God!

My position is that the church should now put emphasis on youth services where counselling and guidance is offered.

The youth find ordinary church services boring and perhaps only addressing affairs of the elderly and leaving them out. Youth services can be supervised by ordained priests with the help of youth leaders.

Some churches have actually embraced this idea. An example is St. Paul’s church Kyebando, where I pray. The church of Uganda can channel some of its authority to the youth to conduct praise and worship in a service given to them.

By doing this, the children of God will not run to the ‘neighbours’ to beg for food which the Archbishop is worried about.
