EDITOR—I am responding to an article titled “It is wrong to close our radio stations,†that appeared in a local daily recently. The writer should know that the Media Council is a statutory body established and charged with the regulation of the mass media in Uganda.
Many radio stations have turned to politicking, which not good for a young and developing democracy.
We should not compare America’s media freedom to Uganda’s because we are still in the 1700s of America.
I do not idealise American democracy of the 18th century. We need to love our country if we are to develop. We should always take a common stand on nation issues because they affect us all.
Unfortunately, politicians and radio presenters are always politicising them, which is dangerous for Uganda.
