FARMERS in the Acholi and Lango sub-regions have received 100 bulls and 50 ox-ploughs worth sh80m from Stanbic Bank.

The bank’s regional manager, Tony Otim-Ayeny, on Saturday handed over 30 of the bulls and ox-ploughs to 15 farmers’ groups of Pukure Fish Farmers Association in Alero sub-county in Amuru district.

Otim-Ayeny said the donation was aimed at enabling the groups to grow more food to avoid famine, as they return from the internally displaced people’s camps.

He added that the oxen would help them eradicate poverty through agriculture.

Otim, however, cautioned them against selling or slaughtering the bulls and oxen.

Stanbic also donated 20 oxen to Kitgum and Lira districts.

The bank’s field officer, James Owiny, said the items were part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility.

The district woman councillor for Koch-Goma sub-county, Margaret Ayugi-Odong, also urged farmers to utilise the oxen to improve agriculture.
