Mpigi seeks more funds
DISTRICT officials have said the criteria of allocating funds is not fair. Margaret Elasu, a gender official, said: “We are given sh1m for our gender activities for the whole year. This is too little,” she said. Fredrick Bombo, the district NGO forum chairperson, said they would petition the Prime Minister’s office over the matter. The assistant chief administrative officer, John Baptist Ssenduli, appealed to NGOs to donate some funds to the district. They were speaking at a workshop on issues in the district.

NGO to help HIV children
Save the Children in Uganda (SCiU), an NGO will provide care and support to 3,000 children living with HIV/AIDS in northern Uganda.Edmond Kertho an SCiU official disclosed the development while handing over six motorcycles to its partners in the north recently. He said under this programme, even adolescents would be counselled and educated on how to use condoms.

Donors halt road funds
The technical advisor on the Belgian funded poverty eradication programme in Kasese district has said the programme will not fund construction of roads in the district. Steven Hollevoet said: “Donors are tired of funding roads and after they pull out the roads are left to get destroyed.” He added that sub-counties that wanted funds for roads should show commitment to maintaining the roads.
Hollevoet was on Tuesday speaking at an awareness workshop about the BTC programme, that funds infrastructure development in the district.

Two fishermen drown
TWO bodies of fishermen, who drowned on Tuesday, have been recovered from Lake Kyoga.
The LC1 chairman, Washington Omoding, identified the deceased as George Eokot, 40, from Okidi village and Omiat Enyadu from Kidetok in Pingire sub-county in Kasilo. He said the incident occurred at around 4:00pm at Aswii landing site where the two reportedly went to take a bath. Omoding added that the deceased’s clothes were found in the boat. He said it is suspected the two had taken enguli (local gin) before they got onto the boat.

Councillor jailed over riots
THE Police on Wednesday arrested the councillor for Central ward, over recent riots.
According to the Police, Kabuzi Balamaga, of Democratic Party, is accused of inciting violence. The district Police commander, Nathan Matovu, said Kabuzi was summoned to record a statement on Wednesday at Police, after which he was detained. “We have been investigating the matter until we detained him. With in shortest time possible, we shall send him to court,” Matovu said.

Youth day for Monday
CELEBRATIONS for the International Youth Day slated for September 21, will be marked in the district. While speaking on a talkshow on Mega FM on Thursday, the Kotido resident district commissioner, Rex Acila said the youth day would focus on disarmament, reconciliation, psycho-social support and development programmes for the youth.

Kitovu to mark 100 years
TOMORROW, Kitovu Catholic Cathedral will mark 100 years. The celebrations, which will be graced by the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Mutebi, will begin with mass led by Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa.
