KCC FC coach Sam Ssimbwa failed to get his kick-off wish with soccer governing body FUFA confirming yesterday that his club will open the season on Saturday against arch-rivals Express.

Ssimbwa watched Express SC demolish SC Villa 5-0 with ease in the Idd Cup on Sunday and acknowledged that he had learnt a lot ahead of their highly anticipated Super League kick-off.

The coach’s main concern ahead of a tough opening game against their rivals, was the fact that KCC missed out on the pre-season Super Eight Cup and has had no meaningful build-up.

“My strategy is now only going to depend on what I have seen. And it is not going to be an easy game because (Express) have been improving in every game,” Ssimbwa noted.

Ssimbwa added that although Express did have major recruitment, veteran coach David Otti’s charges have matured despite struggling last season. Express, like Villa and URA, have also benefited from top level build-up games. Ssimbwa’s new-look KCC missed their only friendly in Sudan due to a lack of passports and pulled out of the Super Eight Cup last week.

League competitions secretary Moses Magogo circulated the confirmed Super League fixtures yesterday, saying, “We can’t delay the league anymore. We have to kick off on Saturday as we finalise with a possible sponsor next week.”

The league depended last season on the financial backing of GTV, the pay television that folded before the league ended.

The 2009/2010 season will kick off with 17 clubs like it was in 2007. FUFA in July dismissed Nalubaale FC from the league for breaking the league’s club management guidelines.

A court case by Proline Academy that claimed to have acquired Nalubaale, nearly wrecked the start of the league. The case was however dismissed.

The 2009-10 league clubs are: URA, Express, KCC, SC Villa, Victors, Simba, Police, Maji, Bunamwaya, Kinyara, Boroboro, Iganga, Fire Masters, Hoima, Arua Central, CRO and Masaka LC.
