THE Lira High Court last week sentenced a UPDF soldier, Pte. James Obua, to life imprisonment for murdering his wife.

Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi said prosecution witnesses had proven that Obua murdered his wife, Phobia Amolo, on November 21, 2005 at Anywal Alwaki village, Apala sub-county in Lira district.

Prosecution told court that Obua and Amolo had gone to pay a visit to his father-in-law in Abia internally displaced persons camp, where they spent a night.

On the way back, Obua picked a quarrel with Amolo and started beating her. Her body was found the following day on November 22 lying in a pool of blood about 100 metres away from where Obua had beaten her the previous day.

Prosecutor added that body was found half-naked and with several injuries.
Obua who did not even attend the burial, was on the run.
