POLICE in Amuria district have arrested a former Uganda People’s Army rebel suspected to have been terrorising people. The mid-eastern Police chief, Alison Agaba, said Martin Ochen was arrested in Atubet village, Okude parish in Orungo sub-county on Saturday.

He said a gun, three empty magazines and 35 bullets were found with Ochen. Agaba said wrong elements were using guns mainly to solve land disputes and in robberies.

Agaba said there are over 200 guns recovered in the Teso sub region ever since the operation was launched and tens of people jailed.

“A majority of these guns were got during the Uganda people’s Army (UPA), LRA, and Lakwenya insurgencies,” said Agaba.

“Others were got during the army recruitment of the Local Defence Unit and the, deserters,” she added.

“We are appealing to the public, to surrender those guns because they are causing them lots of problems,” said Agaba.
