Western region gets artillery brigade

THE Field Artillery Brigade for the western region was launched on Saturday at the 2nd Division headquarters in Mbarara.

THE Field Artillery Brigade for the western region was launched on Saturday at the 2nd Division headquarters in Mbarara.

The brigade is in charge of weapons specialised for mobility, tactical proficiency, long range, short range and extremely long range target engagement.

The launch was presided over by the division commander, Brig. Lucky Kidega, who also installed the commander of the brigade, Lt. Col. James Nguru.

Speaking at the function, Kidega said the creation of the brigade was in line with President Yoweri Museveni’s effort to professionalise the soldiers.
He advised Nguru to instill discipline in the soldiers.

Kidega also advised the officers under the brigade to cooperate with the division commander.

He also called for discipline and advised the officers to avoid drunkenness and womanising.

Army officers, who witnessed the launch, included Brig. Fred Mugisha, the artillery division commander in Masindi and Col. Mark Kodile, the 2nd Division Court Martial chairperson.

Others were brigadier commanders Lt. Isaac Ndyamuba of Kanungu, and David Kabangira.
