President Yoweri Museveni has been asked to first discuss the Land Amendment Bill with the Buganda Kingdom government before signing it into law.
Bishop Mathias Ssekamanya of Lugazi diocese warned that rushing to sign the Bill would not solve the land wrangles in the country if stakeholders, like Buganda Kingdom, were against it.
Parliament passed the Bill last week.
“I pray that before the President signs the Bill there should be more consultations between Mengo officials who are opposed to the Bill and the Government, such that the two parties reach a consensus to make the Bill serve its purpose,†Ssekamanya said.
He made the remarks on Sunday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Kayunga district during celebrations to mark 60 years since Kayunga Catholic parish was established.
Ssekamanya observed that the Bill should be passed following the principle of justice to all the people for the country to attain peace and sustainable development.
In his message to the Christians, Ssekamanya blasted Kayunga residents who have abandoned God and decided to follow Satan.
He observed that it was because of greed for wealth that some of the residents were exhuming bodies to use in satanic rituals.
Ssekamanya also advised married couples to love and forgive one another.
In addition, he urged parents to educate their children to prepare them for a bright future.
“Parents should stop forcing their young girls into marriage with the aim of getting wealth from the men who defile them,†Ssekamanya said.
He confirmed over 60 children, who he urged to always walk in the light of Jesus Christ in order to achieve their desires.
