Hoima municipality authorities have been ordered to rehabilitate all major roads and fix potholes in the taxi and bus parks.

The second deputy premier, Henry Kajura, directed the acting town clerk, Amir Nsamo, to begin grading Bujumbura and Duhaga roads and fix the potholes in the parks next week.

“The chapter of talking without working has been closed and we are not going to tolerate those who are joking,” he warned.

Kajura, who is also the district NRM party chairperson, pledged to extend electricity to several suburbs in the town.

Kajura said he had started rehabilitating Hoima hardware market, which was recently gutted by fire that destroyed property worth millions of shillings.

“As long as I am still in Kampala, I will work for you and I want to see change in this town in a month,” he said while meeting drivers under their umbrella group, Hoima Drivers Forum, on Monday.

Kajura called on the rival organisation, Oil Region Drivers Association, to unite with the other group to realise development.

A town councillor, William Kyahurwa, said progress was being hampered by the poor road network in the district.
