A total of 145,281 voters in Isingiro district will participate in the Monday polls for the woman parliamentary seat even if they do not have voters’ cards.

“The commission would like to inform the voters of Isingiro who may have lost their voters cards that any registered voter, with or without a voter’s card, is allowed to vote as long as he/she appears on the voters’ register,” Eng. Badru Kiggundu, the Electoral Commission chairman, said.

Addressing a press conference at the EC headquarters in Kampala, Kiggundu refuted claims that new polling stations had been set up in preparation for the by-election to replace the late Vicky Kyaka, who died in a motor accident in November.

“This is not true. The 280 polling stations in the district were gazetted on December 5, 2008 in Notice No. 619.”

Stella Kafureeka (FDC) and Grace Isingoma (NRM) are vying for the seat.

Kiggundu cautioned voters against bribery, intimidation and multiple voting.
