OVER 20, 000 people in the north abandoned rebellion and have been pardoned since 2000, the Uganda Amnesty Commission has said. Addressing a congregation during peace prayers at the Kaunda Grounds in the municipality on Thursday, the chairman, Jovino Akaki-Ayumu, urged the leaders to preach peace and help the people fight poverty. Akaki-Ayumu said those who surrendered received certificates and a token of sh262, 000 each.

Police get more vigilant

The Police have stepped up operations to contain the rising cases of defilement and burglary. The district criminal investigations boss, Romano Okuja, said they had registered 20 defilement and 10 burglary cases since January 1. Okuja said the municipality was the most affected. He said a prominent businessman, Joshua Amule, lost sh45m to robbers recently.
