March 1 is celebrated worldwide as the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting (ICDB).

This day is aimed at involving children in broadcast media. Broadcast media includes radio, television and newspapers.

On this day, children all over the world are given an opportunity to present programmes on radio and television. And on this particular day, over 50 radio stations in Uganda will have children read news, participate in debates, interviews and story telling, music, dance and drama. Please tune in to any radio station to be part of the fun.

They will also talk about issues that affect children and the world such as child sacrifice, poor sanitation, leadership and keeping the environment clean.

The theme of this year’s celebrations is “Unite for Children: Tune in to Kids.”

This message calls upon everyone including adults to listen in and watch these programmes by children.

After this, these broadcast programmes will be judged by 16 children from each of the four regions of the country. Winners will be selected and awarded in May.

ICDB has been celebrated globally since 1992.
