A GIRL is defiled everyday in Kumi district, according to William Kaija, the resident district commissioner.
Kaija regretted that the majority of the cases involved teachers, who should have set a good example to their pupils.
“Due to the increasing defilement cases at school, many girls have dropped out, and it is common to find only one girl in a candidate class,†Kaija explained.
He was recently speaking at a breakfast meeting on the girl child for MPs at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
It was organised by Action Aid International- Uganda as part of week-long activities to the March8, World Women’s Day. The national celebrations will be held in Mayuge district.

He disclosed that when he tried to follow up the defilement cases in which teachers were involved, he was shocked to discover that only two had been arrested.
