There is abundant ‘gold’ in the countryside!

I am an ardent reader of the new vision business and farming columns. What has probably been the most outstanding innovation that the paper has come up with is the ‘Harvest Money’ pages.

This is one of the most effective ways to bring people out of poverty and to boost those with average earnings while inspiring those with money- making ideas but who fear to start.

The stories that have been running about the country’s indigenous successful farmers who have made a fortune or at least attained a better standard of life are amazing. I think this is going to inspire (or has already inspired) many young and old people alike who read The New Vision into thinking strongly about farming as a business.

If you read how people started from scratch, how they were inspired, how those in formal employment like university lectures are going in for farming as a business, there is no doubt this country has potential to become a food basket of the region.

I hope the public has learnt many lessons and by the end of the month when the stories stop running, there should be a multitude of people with changed views about farming.

One can clearly see that life actually can be more beautiful in the rural areas if you plan your life well. Odd jobs in Kampala are no match for the gold in the countryside!
