THE government should suspend buying military equipment and embark on purchasing fire brigade trucks to fight the rampant fire outbreaks in the country, the Forum for Democratic Change president has advised.

Kiiza Besigye said buying expensive cars for ministers and the presidential jet is a waste of taxpayers’ money which could have been used to buy the trucks.

He was on Saturday speaking at an FDC Women’s Day celebrations at Nawanyago sub-county, Kamuli district.

Clad in a kitenge shirt and a matching brown trouser, Besigye said the money could be used to equip hospitals with drugs and improve on school infrastructure.

"The country can buy tear gas canisters but unable to buy fire fighting trucks to help people," said Besigye who arrived in a convoy of over ten cars and lorries chanting FDC slogans brought business in Nawanyago to a standstill as he waved to supporters from the open roof of his Pajero car on his way to the rally.

The FDC secretary, Women’s League, Grace Mukembo, said the party was gaining at the grass root and what was needed was more support and mobilisation.

Party officials, Kevin Taaka and Salaamu Musumba attended.
