MP grilled over Mengo
KAMPALA
Local government state minister Perez Ahabwe was yesterday asked to explain why the Government had delayed to grant Mengo, a municipality status. Ahabwe told MPs on the local government and public service committee that the matter had delayed because Kampala had not yet been approved as the capital city. He explained that the establishment of Mengo Municipality would depend on how the Cabinet and Parliament enacted a law that made Kampala the capital city. “By extension, Mengo Municipality would also be created. Its boundaries would be formed once Kampala City is created,” Ahabwe said. He aslo disclosed that the proposal to upgrade Hoima town council to a municipality status had been finalised.
