THE National Forestry Authority (NFA) earns between sh3m and sh4m monthly from tree seedlings, the public relations manager, Moses Watasa, has said.

Watasa said 2.5 million seedlings had been raised this financial year from 70,000 five years ago.

Watasa said the most planted trees were pines and eucalyptus. “Between January and April this year, 1.2 million pine seedlings, 3,000 eucalyptus seedlings and 10,000 fruit trees were planted,” he said.

The national tree seed centre is at Namanve. Other tree centres have been opened by NFA in Bushenyi in western Uganda, Jinja in eastern Uganda and Gulu in northern Uganda.

He said most of the private tree farmers were indigenous middle- income Ugandans.

However, Watasa said investing in tree planting was still a challenge.
