Omugave Ndugwa, considered by many as the father of local popular drama is back in town. The founder and director of the Black Pearls drama company left for the U.S in 1998 after he failed to secure the management of the now defunct Pearl Theatre ( Riverside Theatre in the 1980s).
His kyeyo stint in the U.S included organising concerts for Ugandans but snoops say with the crunch, the concerts were no longer profitable sending Ndugwa packing. Back in Uganda, Ndugwa has not wasted anytime tapping into the now lucrative local theatre.
He has already resurrected Black Pearls and the group is currently rehearsing for a new play soon showing at Theatre La Bonita. His former like proteges Mariam Ndagire are all household stage and screen actors.
