UGANDA’S bid to qualify for the 2011 International Rugby Board World Cup received a massive boost after ex South African winger Chester Williams agreed to take over as Cranes coach for a second time.

Newly-elected Uganda Rugby Union chairman William Blick said Williams will arrive on May 24 or 25 to commence his two-month reign with the aim of leading the Cranes past Tunisia in a complicated two-legged semi-final of the World Cup Qualifiers.

“It’s a tough semi-final against Tunisia,” said Blick. “They are ranked higher than us so it will be tough but Uganda has always beaten bigger teams as it was with Namibia. So I believe we can beat them.”

Blick stressed that for this to materialise the Cranes players must believe in themselves and it is in boosting the “psychological” strength of the team that William will be critical.

Williams is currently coaching Emerging Boks, South Africa’s A side. He was Uganda’s coach in 2006-2007, leading the team to victories against Ivory Coast among others.
