THE Sembule Group, the manufacturer of steel products, is to spend over sh7b to increase its factory output. Tony Nsubuga, the financial controller, disclosed that the development would bring about the production of bigger iron bars.

“Everything will be in place by January. We have so far spent sh2.5b in upgrading machinery for the production of iron bars above 12 millimetres,” Nsubuga explained.

He said another sh4.2b would be invested in modern raw materials for iron bars.

“We are doing all this because we want quality. We do not want to recycle local scraps,” Nsubuga said.
He said the investment would create over 200 jobs.

“We have 100 workers today but we hope to recruit more 200 people to work in three shifts,” he added.

The investment, he said, was a response to the growing local and regional demand as a result of the booming construction industry.

“Our products are consumed locally and in Rwanda, DR Congo and South Sudan. This is a bigger market that requires huge investments to satisfy,” he said.

The Sembule Group currently produces barbed wires, iron sheets, wire mesh and the British reinforcement fabric.

It also produces expanded metal lath, small round iron bars, ridges and gutters.
The Sembule Group is among the top local fabricators of building steel products.
